Additional Details

An early cartoon strip, with 35 panels depicting the adventures of a London youth named Mivins who "dreams of California" and endures a difficult ocean passage. He is disappointed to find no porter available to handle his bags at the dock in San Francisco, and is soon reduced to cooking a rodent over a fire for dinner and living in a barrel. After failing to find any gold, and being evicted from his barrel by an Indian, Mivins attempts suicide by throwing himself into the ocean. However, he is rescued by a ship and delivered home to his delighted mother.
